Both the men's and women's teams from Ramstein successfully defended their titles as USAFE Champions at the 2006 USAFE Volleyball Championships held 15-19 May at RAF Alconbury, United Kingdom.

In the final women's game Aviano (4-1) defeated Incirlik (0-5) 21-25, 25-20 and 15-3 to claim their first win and to finalize the women's standings as follows

Mildenhall women (4-1) defeated Spangdahlem women (3-2) 25-17, 20-25 and 15-7 to advance to tomorrow's final where they will take on Ramstein (5-0) who defeated 501st (2-3) 25-6 and 25-6. The late game was Aviano vs Incirlik and will be reported on tomorrow.

Subject: 2006 USAFE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY FOUR - MEN'S RESULTS

The 2006 USAFE Men's Volleyball Final will be contested between the unbeaten Ramstein Rams (6-0) and the Lakenheath Eagles (4-2). Ramstein, in their final match defeated Spangdahlem (4-2) 25-19, 25-20 who were in a "must win" situation to advance. Lakenheath, although losing their final match to Aviano 25-19, 26-27 & 8-15, advances by means of the first tiebreaker of head to head competition bewteen two tied teams and Lakenheath had defeated the Sabres in Day 3 action. In other men's games today it was Incirlik (3-3) over Mildenhall, Spangdahlem over the 501st, and the hosts 501st (1-5) over Mildenhall (0-6).

The final round robin games continue with three women's matches, 501 vs Ramstein, Spang vs Mildenhall and Aviano vs Incirlik where the winner of Spang/MHall will advance to tomorrow's women's final to meet Ramstein.

Subject: 2006 USAFE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY THREE - MEN'S RESULTS

In the most exciting game of the week, Aviano in a must win match against unbeaten Ramstein came up just short losing 17-15 in the deciding set after winning the second set 25-22, Ramstein had won the opener 25-20. This leaves the Ramstein Rams still unbeaten at 5-0 and eliminates the 2-3 Aviano Dragons. It took three sets also for Lakenheath (4-1) to sneak by previously unbeaten Spangdahlem (3-1) by the score 23-25, 25-16 and 15-10. Incirlik (2-3) picked up their second win of the day over 501st (0-4) 25-18, 25-21. This sets up intrigueing matches for tomorrow with 3 teams still with a chance of making Fridays final, Ramstein, Spangdahlem and Lakenheath.

2006 USAFE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY THREE - WOMEN'S & MEN'S RESULTS

As the women's games were finished on Day 3 it was Ramstein (4-0) defeating Incirlik (0-4) 25-9, 25-10 meaning that they will advance to Fridays final where they will meet the winner of tomorrow Spangdahlem (3-1) and Mildenhall (3-1) match up. Spangdahlem came back from behind to defeat Aviano(0-4) 19-25, 25-9, 15-8.

In men's play so far today it was Incirlik (1-3) winning their first match over Aviano (2-2) 25-19, 27-25, unbeaten Ramstein moved to 4-0 with a 25-10, 25-18 victory over Mildenhall (0-4) and Lakenheath (3-1) defeated 501st (0-4) 25-16, 25-19.

In the two opening women's matches of Day three - Ramstein remained unbeaten and Mildenhall kept in touch. Ramstein Rams (3-0) came from a set down to beat previously unbeaten Spangdahlem (2-1) 22-25, 25-12 and 15-11. Mildenhall (3-1) defeated hosts 501st (2-2) 25-12 and 25-17. Ramstein and Spang play their second matches of the day against Incirlik (0-3) and Aviano (0-3) respectively.

In the top women's match up of the day Ramstein women just got by Mildenhall with a very exciting 25-22, 25-18 victory. As with the men's division, this leaves Ramstein and Spangdahlem women both undefeated at 2-0 with the Sabres downing Incirlik 25-21 and 25-17, and both teams will square off early Wednesday. Incirlik (0-3) would also lose their other match of the day to hosts 501st (2-1) by the narrow margin of 25-22, 25-22. In the days final match it was Mildenhall (2-1) over Aviano (0-3) 25-15, 25-27 and 15-7.

Day three will start with four women's matches in the morning and be followed by six men's matches in the afternoon as the top two teams from this round robin format will advance to Friday's championship matches.

The men's session on day two finished with the two teams from Germany remaining unbeaten at 3-0. The Ramstein Rams defeated previously unbeaten Lakenheath (2-1) 25-12 and 25-18, while Spang got through with double header wins over Mildenhall (0-3) and Incirlik (0-3). In other games Aviano (2-1) defeated the hosts 501st 25-12, 25-12 and Lakenheath won their opening match of a double header over Incirlik to move to 2-0 before losing to the Rams. Men's play continues Wednesday in the afternoon session. Four women's matches will commence shortly closing out Day two.

In men's play on day one defending champions Ramstein won both their matches over Incirlik and the 501st Griffins, Spangdahlem and Lakenheath were the other two teams that won their opening matches. All - The 2006 USAFE men's and women's volleyball championships are being held at RAF Alconbury, UK. Seven men's and six women's teams are playing a round robin format with the top two teams advancing to Friday's championship games. Attached are the results from the morning session for the women's division, with defending champions Ramstein beating Aviano 25-13, 25-14 in a repeat of the 2005 final. The afternoon session is about to start featuring five men's games.
