Subject: 2007 USAFE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOFTBALL - FINALE
During the last day 5 games were completed on three different fields due again to the challenging weather conditions and a special tribute goes out to Mr George and his staff for the tremendous work accomplished during the past six days.
Play commenced on field 5 with the ladies semi final and after 7 complete innings in a defensive battle lasting just 55minutes the Incirlik Nomads squeazed by the hosts Aviano Dragons by the score of 5-1 with four runs being scored in the top of the 6th after a 1-1 battle throughout. The women's championship game then moved over to field 4 where the Ramstein Rams bats continued to stay alive posting 45 hits in a 32-5 demolition of Incirlik, 17 of those runs being scored in the 4th inning.
Im mens play again starting on field 5 before moving over to the main field #3. The first game saw Spang overcom Ramstein 24-20 to move into the championship game - the Sabers posted the max 8 home runs and came from behind to clinch it in the 7th scoring 9 runsand holding the Rams to two after they had put up 8 runs themselves to lead 18-15 after 6 complete. The Rams then met hosts Aviano in the losers semi final for the right to meet Spang again in the final. The Dragons led after 2 but then 12 runs in two innings mid way through by the Rams put them ahead 21-16 after 4 and neither team was able to add to their tallys down the stretch for a 21-16 final. In the final consiting hitting by both teams that combined for a total of 14home runs meant that it was a close encounter the whole way - the Rams led 11-10 after 4 complete but then with the Sabers posting 9 in the bottom of 5 put them up 19-11 and despite Ramstein scoring 6 in the top of the next inning they were unable to make up the 4 run margin in the 7th losing out 17-21.
All Tournament Team Selections:
Women - Dina Quanico, Amy Longoria and Corinna Vieyra (all Ramstein), Michika Johnson and Laurel Edgar (both Incirlik), Bianca Cortez (Aviano), Jessica Irwin (Mildenhall), Shirley Belvin (Lakenheath), Alana Hurst (Spangdahlem) and Latricia Munday (Lajes)

Subject: 2007 USAFE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOFTBALL - DAY FOUR SCORES
Four women's and three men's teams remain after the first of two days of elimination play. Ramstein ladies already have advanced to tomorrow's championship game and they await to see who will advance from Aviano, Lakenheath or Incirlik. In men's play Ramstein will play Spangdahlem tomorrow to move into the men's final with Aviano still alive in the losers bracket.
In women's play today defending champion Ramstein advanced with wins over Aviano (21-14), Spangdahlem (21-7) and Incirlik (13-1), Incirlik had beaten Mildenhall (5-3) earlier before their loss to the Rams. Earlier in the first round Aviano, Lakenheath and Lajes were beaten to drop into the losers bracket. Aviano then won two straight eliminating Lajes (17-5) and Mildenhall (15-8) to keep their hopes alive and then Lakenheath defeated Spangdahlem (9-8) to set up an early match up with Aviano tomorrow. The winner will then meet Incirlik for the right to advance to the championship game.
In men's play Spangdahlem went on a roll defeating Lakenheath (21-12) and hosts Aviano (21-5) and with Ramstein defeating Mildenhall (31-9) sets up an all Germany match up tomorrow at 1030. In losers bracket play Lakenheath then eliminated neighbors Mildenhall (21-19) but then came up short against Aviano, with the Dragons staging a late rally to defeat the Eagles (11-8). Aviano will play the loser of the Rams and Sabers for the chance to advance to Mondays finale.

Subject: 2007 USAFE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOFTBALL - DAY THREE SCORES
Round robin games are now complete and teams are seeded, placed into double elimination bracket as per attachment and ready to start elimination play where on Monday two teams will be crowned USAFE champion and four teams will advance to the Army/Air Force Championship next weekend here at Aviano.
In women's play three teams finshed tied for 1st place with a 5-1 record but by virtue of the tournament tiebreaker the Incirlik Nomads received the #1 seed and bye into te second round. In the opening round of games tomorrow morning #2 seed Spangdahlem will meet #7 Lajes, #3 Ramstein against hosts Aviano #6 and the #4 verses #5 will be an all UK encounter with Mildenhall entertaining Lakenheath. Mildenhall, Lakenheath and Aviano all finshed with a 2-4 record and Lajes winless at 0-7.
Hosts Aviano were the only mens squad to finish with a better than .500 record at 6-2 and claim the top seed. They will meet the winner of Spangdahlem and Lakenheath who both finished at 3-5 to be seeded #'s 4&5 respectively. Another tie at 4-4 meant that another tiebreaker rule would seperate Ramstein #2 and Mildenhall #3, both teams will meet tomorrow in the opening round.
