CC-AIR HQ Ramstein Swimming Championships

The USAFE women’s swim team recaptured the title of CC-Air HQ Ramstein Swim Champions and the men’s team finished again runners up behind the German Air Force, held 12 Sept at Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

In women’s competition the USAFE women won six events and placed second in two for a team total of 52 points, sixteen ahead of second placed Royal Air Force (UK) with 36 points. The Netherlands were 3rd with 28pts, Belgium 4th and Germany 5th with 24 and 16 points respectively.


In the men’s competition the USAFE men tied the German Air Force with a total of 58 points, however, by virtue of the championship tiebreaker of most events won meant that the German Air Force were champions with six wins against USAFE’s four event first places. In third place were the Royal Air Force with 35 points, The Netherlands fourth with 28 points and Belgium 5th with 23 points.


Three championship records were broken by the USAFE women in a very fast Eindhoven pool. In the 100m breaststroke Ramstein athlete Capt Lindsey Bauer clocked a 1:20.80 beating the previous record of 1:22.47. Second Lieutenant Virginia Miller from WPAFB knocked nearly a second off of the 200m freestyle record with 2:13.67, the previous record stood at 2:14.42. Then in the final event, the 4X100m freestyle relay, First Lieutenants Julienne White and Sarah Thilo along with Second Lieutenants Lauren White and Virginia Miller clocked 4:18.55 to smash the previous record of 4:24.50 by nearly six seconds.

The next CC-Air HQ Ramstein championship will be Cross Country, at Koksijde, Belgium, 28-30 November. USAFE athletes interested in submitting applications need to complete an AF form 303 by 2 November. Further information may be obtained by calling the USAFE sports office at DSN496-7934.
